Details of the Fatal Incident in Saulawa Quarters

The Kano State Fire Service confirmed that the tragedy occurred at Saulawa Quarters in Gwarzo Town. According to official reports received by the Gwarzo Fire Service branch, a resident named Alhaji Dan Dauda Gwarzo placed an emergency call alerting authorities about a man who had entered the well under dangerous conditions. Community members who witnessed the event expressed profound devastation over the loss. Mallam Hussaini Ibrahim, a local resident, recounted the chaotic scene, stating, "I was at the shop when I heard the chaos that there was a cylinder burning and someone threw it into the well to stop the fire. I ran over there but we never imagined the gas would take all the air from the well. It happened too fast that we lost a member of our community in this way."

Community Reactions and Calls for Safety Measures

Another community member, Sani Ado, lamented the painful loss, emphasizing the victim's intentions. "He was a very young man trying to prevent a disaster but unknown to us all, he is going to meet his own end. We pray for his soul to rest in peace, and we will plead with communities to cover these open wells. They are death traps," he added. These statements highlight growing concerns among residents about the dangers posed by uncovered wells and the urgent need for preventive measures to avoid similar tragedies in the future.

Fire Service Response and Official Safety Warning

In response to the incident, the Kano State Fire Service swiftly mobilized its operatives to the scene. They retrieved Ubale unconscious from the well, and he was later confirmed dead. The Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Sani Anas, expressed deep condolences to the family of the deceased in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi.

The fire service issued a stern warning to the public regarding safety precautions. "We urge residents to observe all safety precautions around open wells and confined spaces.
