A 71-year-old man from Wales has been sentenced to a significant prison term for a series of historic sexual offences committed against underage girls in the 1980s, with one assault occurring on the very day his wife was in labour.
Shocking Details of the Crimes Unveiled in Court
David Peers, from Wrexham, was jailed for a total of eight years and four months at Mold Crown Court on Thursday, January 8, 2026. The court heard harrowing details of how Peers, then in his late twenties, preyed on his first victim when she was a teenager. Prosecutor Dafydd Roberts outlined that Peers would drive the girl to secluded lanes, expose himself, and instruct her to perform sexual acts.
The abuse escalated when he invited her to his house while his wife was away. In a particularly callous act, the following year, Peers called the same girl over as she walked past his home on the day his wife was giving birth to their child. He took her upstairs and engaged in penetrative sex.
The court was told Peers even committed a sexual act with the victim on a coach, using his coat as cover. A few years later, he began abusing a second underage girl, who was 21 years his junior, over a three-year period. This victim would skip school to meet him for encounters in his car and at his home.
Lasting Trauma Faced by the Victims
Both victims, now adults, presented powerful impact statements to the court, detailing the profound and lifelong damage caused by Peers' actions. The first victim described feeling "isolated, emotionally burdened, blamed, humiliated, confused and ashamed."
She stated she had been in a "dark place for decades" and has suffered psychologically through most of her adult life. The second victim revealed that her early teenage years were "tarnished by methodical and calculated grooming," which harmed her education and social development.
She further disclosed that Peers took intimate photographs of her and used threats to disclose them, which later contributed to the breakdown of her marriage. She has required antidepressants and is forced to relive the trauma through the court proceedings.
Sentencing and Judicial Remarks
Peers pleaded guilty to seven offences of indecent assault against his first victim, who was under 16. He was also convicted of two counts of indecent assault and two counts of committing an act of gross indecency against the second underage victim.
In defence, Alun Williams said his client accepted his offences had a "profound" effect and apologised. He cited Peers' retirement, good work history, and poor health, including a skin cancer diagnosis and a pending abdominal operation.
However, His Honour Judge Timothy Petts imposed a sentence of five years and four months for offences against the first victim, and a consecutive three-year term for those against the second, totalling eight years and four months imprisonment.
Peers was also made subject to lifelong sexual offender notification requirements and given lifelong restraining orders protecting both victims. Judge Petts expressed hope that the sentences would bring "some closure" to the women and wished them the best for the future.
