Man Arrested for Dousing Girlfriend with Gasoline and Setting Her on Fire in North Carolina

In a horrifying incident of domestic violence, a 29-year-old man has been arrested for attempted murder and arson after allegedly breaking into his girlfriend's home, dousing her with gasoline, and setting her on fire. The suspect, identified as Franklin “Frankie” Paul Faircloth, was taken into custody by the Sampson County Sheriff's Office following a citizen's tip that led to his capture.

Details of the Arrest and Charges

According to a statement from Sampson County Sheriff Jimmy Thornton, Faircloth was found on April 13 behind a residence in Roseboro, North Carolina. Deputies searched the area and apprehended him without incident. He was processed and served with multiple outstanding warrants, including first-degree arson, attempted murder, first-degree burglary, assault inflicting serious bodily injury, and a misdemeanor domestic violence charge.

The arrest stemmed from an incident the previous night, when deputies and firefighters responded to a structure fire reported around 10 p.m. at a home on North Pine Street in Roseboro. At the scene, authorities discovered a 36-year-old woman suffering from burns over approximately two-thirds of her body.

Victim's Account and Investigation

Investigators revealed that the victim told deputies Faircloth had forced his way into her home, poured gasoline on her, and ignited it before fleeing on a gray and red bicycle. The woman was immediately transported to an undisclosed trauma center for emergency treatment due to the severity of her injuries.

The Sampson County Fire Marshal’s Office and Sheriff’s Office processed the crime scene and, after consulting with the district attorney’s office, obtained warrants for Faircloth’s arrest. Authorities had previously indicated that Faircloth, who was believed to be homeless, might still be in the Roseboro area prior to his capture.

Broader Implications and Community Response

This case highlights the severe consequences of domestic violence and the critical role of community vigilance in apprehending suspects. The swift action by law enforcement and the citizen who reported Faircloth's whereabouts underscores the importance of public cooperation in ensuring justice for victims of such brutal crimes.

As the investigation continues, Faircloth remains in custody, facing serious legal repercussions for his alleged actions. The victim's condition and recovery are being closely monitored, with authorities emphasizing the need for support and resources for survivors of domestic abuse.
