A tragic incident unfolded in Edo State as an angry mob lynched a 30-year-old man, identified as Spiro Odese, for killing his father following an altercation over a lack of food. The event occurred on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at Ikhe-khe Uhumwenbho community in Ewatto, Esan South East Local Government Area.

Details of the Incident

The deceased, Friday Odese, a farmer, was reportedly butchered by his son after failing to provide food. According to a community source, Spiro demanded food, but his father explained that there was none available as he could not access the farm to harvest cassava due to gunmen who had taken over the forests in the area.

This response led to a heated argument, during which Spiro picked up a cutlass and attacked his father, killing him instantly. A woman who witnessed the attack raised an alarm and called for help. The suspect also attacked a neighbor who attempted to rescue the farmer, inflicting severe injuries. The injured man is currently in the intensive care unit at an undisclosed hospital.
