A horrific attack in the early hours of Saturday, 17 January 2026, has left a Kano community in mourning and terror after suspected assailants killed a housewife and her four children, including an infant.
Details of the Dorayi Chiranci Tragedy
The brutal incident took place inside the family's private residence located in the densely populated Dorayi Chiranci quarter of Kano State. According to an eyewitness account, the killers invaded the home, slaughtered the mother and three of her children, who were young adults. In a particularly cruel act, they threw the infant into a well within the compound.
Community Wakes to Horror and Fear
A resident, Isiyaka Yakubu, narrated how the tragedy unfolded. The entire community was thrown into mourning when a neighbour emerged from the victim's house in the early hours, screaming and seeking help. "The neighbour who came out of the house told us she found everyone in the house in a pool of their blood," Yakubu lamented. "Later, we discovered a small baby had been thrown into the well in the compound."
Yakubu expressed the deep fear now gripping residents, stating that the entire Dorayi Chiranci and Dorayi Babba areas are living in tension. "This is worrisome and unexplained. Everyone is under a tense situation now. This has never happened in this area before," he said. While the motive behind the attack remains unclear, the community has reported the case to the police.
