Ondo Police Arrest Mother, Son for Alleged Money Ritual Plot, Rescue 10-Year-Old
Mother, Son Arrested for Ritual Plot in Ondo

In a shocking incident that underscores the dangers of the 'get-rich-quick' syndrome, the Ondo State Police Command has apprehended a 53-year-old woman and her 28-year-old son for their alleged involvement in a planned money ritual.

Swift Police Action Foils Ritual Plan

The arrests took place in Ile-Oluji, within the Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State. According to the police spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the command's Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team acted on credible intelligence provided by a vigilant citizen. The tip-off, which reported suspected ritual activity, came on December 27, prompting an immediate and decisive response from the operatives.

Their swift intervention successfully prevented the ritual from taking place. The police team moved in and secured the scene, leading to the arrest of the two primary suspects.

Suspects Confess, Victim Rescued

The suspects have been identified as Maria, aged 53, and her son Adewale, aged 28. During preliminary investigations, it was revealed that Maria conspired with her son to hire a herbalist for the explicit purpose of using a young boy for money rituals.

The most critical outcome of the operation was the successful rescue of a 10-year-old boy, who was allegedly the intended victim for the deadly ritual. The rescued child was immediately taken to a hospital for necessary medical attention and care. Both suspects are currently in police custody and have reportedly confessed to the crime. The police stated that they will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the ongoing investigation.

Police Commissioner Issues Stern Warning

The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Adebowale Lawal, commended the SWAT operatives for their professional conduct and rapid response. He emphasized that the breakthrough was a direct result of intelligence-led policing, which remains crucial for proactive crime prevention.

CP Lawal used the opportunity to address the public, particularly parents. He advised mothers to desist from nefarious activities and instead strive to be positive role models for their children. The Commissioner also warned parents to actively discourage their children from the destructive 'get-rich-quick' mentality.

"The CP emphasises that through diligence and perseverance, they can achieve their aspirations in life," DSP Jimoh reiterated. Lawal reassured residents of the command's unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property across Ondo State.
