A vulcaniser identified as Onyema Okonkwo has been arrested in connection with the murder of Chinwendu Achumba, a nursing student in Imo State. The suspect reportedly killed the young woman after she rejected his romantic advances.
Details of the Incident
Chinwendu Achumba, a student at the College of Nursing in Umuadara Umulogho, was found dead in her off-campus lodge on Thursday, May 21, in Umulogho, Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State. Her throat had been slit so deeply that she was nearly decapitated.
Confession and Arrest
A suspect arrested in connection with the crime confessed that he and another man gained entry into her house, took turns raping her, and then killed her. Reports indicate that the vulcaniser had attempted to woo the victim, but she rejected his advances. During the attack, the victim scratched the vulcaniser as she fought off the assailants. When he realized she recognized him, he allegedly killed her and fled with her phone.
A video shared online shows the vulcaniser and his accomplice being arrested. The suspect also confessed in the footage.
