NDLEA Uncovers Illicit Drugs Concealed in Machines
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have uncovered consignments of illicit drugs hidden in water purifier machines shipped from the Netherlands to Lagos. The discovery was made at a courier company in Lagos on Tuesday, May 26, 2026. The seized consignments included three kilogrammes of ketamine and 199 grammes of MDMA, commonly known as Ecstasy.
Arrests in Kaduna State
In Kaduna State, NDLEA operatives arrested a couple, Musa Sunday and Mercy Sunday, along with another suspect, Salomi Ezekiel, aged 38. The arrests followed the seizure of 100 jumbo bags of skunk weighing 1,246 kilogrammes from their residence in the Gonin Gora area of Kaduna on Sunday, May 24. In a separate operation along the Abuja-Kaduna highway near Jere, officers intercepted a 30-year-old suspect, Sunusi Musa, who was allegedly transporting 380 rounds of military-grade 7.62mm ammunition to Katsina State. The suspect and the ammunition were handed over to the appropriate security agency for further investigation.
Warehouse Raid in Niger State
Acting on credible intelligence, NDLEA operatives in Niger State raided a warehouse in Gidan Kukah, Bosso Local Council, on Wednesday, May 27. They recovered 457 kilogrammes of skunk from the location. Subsequently, a suspect, Godwin Zakka, aged 46, was arrested at his residence in the Gbeganu area of Minna in connection with the seizure.
Interception in Enugu State
On Thursday, May 28, operatives on patrol along the Onitsha-Enugu Expressway intercepted a commercial vehicle with registration number JAY-158-YF traveling to Taraba State. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 22,000 pills of tramadol, 100 ampoules of pentazocine, and 200 grammes of bromazepam. The suspect, James Maigari Wisdom, was arrested.
Commendation from NDLEA Chairman
The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Marwa (Rtd), commended the officers and personnel of the Kaduna, Niger, and Enugu Commands, as well as those of the Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI), for their successful operations. He praised their efforts in reducing drug supply while sustaining sensitisation campaigns under the War Against Drug Abuse initiative. Marwa urged officers across the country to remain steadfast in the agency's anti-drug campaign.
