Background of the Suspect

Abel, originally from the United Kingdom, became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2022. He was facing serious charges related to a series of shootings that occurred on April 13, which left three people dead in different locations around the Atlanta metropolitan area.

Alleged Crimes and Victims

Authorities allege that Abel paid a homeless individual to purchase a firearm for him. He then used this weapon to carry out fatal attacks at three separate sites. The victims have been identified as Prianna Weathers, 31; Tony Matthews, 48; and Lauren Bullis, 40.

Weathers, a mother to a preteen child, and Bullis, an employee of the Department of Homeland Security, both succumbed to their injuries shortly after being shot. Matthews, a father, was hospitalized for six days before passing away on April 19.

Timeline of the Shootings

The violent spree began around 1 a.m. on April 13, when Weathers was shot outside a Checkers restaurant along Wesley Chapel Road near Decatur in DeKalb County. Approximately an hour later, Abel reportedly drove to the northern Atlanta suburb of Brookhaven, where he shot Matthews while he was sleeping on the ground outside a Kroger’s supermarket in a shopping plaza.

Between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. ET, Abel allegedly shot and stabbed Bullis as she was walking her dog in Panthersville, an unincorporated area south of Decatur. This series of attacks has shocked the local community and raised concerns about public safety.

The investigation into Abel’s death is ongoing, with authorities working to determine the exact cause and any contributing factors. This case highlights the complexities of criminal justice and custody issues in high-profile homicide investigations.
