A Nigerian national has lost his life following a violent stabbing incident in the Philippines, with local authorities now conducting a manhunt for a second suspect.
Details of the Fatal Attack
The violent episode unfolded in the early hours of Tuesday, January 6, 2026. According to a report from the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), the stabbing occurred at approximately 3:45 a.m. in the area of Basa 1, Barangay Zapote, Las Piñas City.
The victim, a Nigerian national whose identity has not yet been released, was estimated to be between 30 and 40 years old. He sustained fatal stab wounds to his lower left abdomen and left arm during the altercation.
Witness Account and Suspect Apprehension
A witness at the scene provided crucial details to investigators. She reported hearing a heated argument outside while she was sorting recyclable materials. Moments later, she heard a demand: “give me the money.” Upon looking outside, she observed the victim grappling with two men.
The witness stated that one of the men, now identified as the primary suspect, stabbed the victim on the right side of his body. Both assailants then fled the scene. Despite his injuries, the victim reportedly gave chase and struggled with the suspect again before the attacker managed to escape.
Thanks to the efforts of concerned citizens and responding police officers, a chase ensued. The primary suspect was apprehended shortly after the incident. However, his accomplice, identified only by the alias “Lu Long,” remains at large.
Aftermath and Ongoing Investigation
Barangay tanods (local security officers) rushed the wounded Nigerian national to the Las Piñas District Hospital. Tragically, he was pronounced dead by the attending physician at 5:24 a.m.
The incident was formally reported to police command centers shortly after daybreak. Authorities have officially launched a manhunt for the second suspect. Investigators and Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) have been requested to assist with the technical aspects of the case, which is currently being investigated as a homicide.
The National Capital Region Police Office has confirmed the arrest of one individual and continues to pursue all leads to bring the second suspect to justice.
