Amid escalating xenophobic tensions in South Africa, a Nigerian storekeeper in Cape Town has sparked controversy after a video of his defiant stance went viral. Despite the threat of renewed attacks, the man vowed to remain in the country, openly challenging those calling for foreign nationals to leave.
Defiant Message Goes Viral
In the footage, the storekeeper—employed at a local mall—boldly addressed his detractors, claiming he had "taken their jobs" and inviting disgruntled locals to confront him. His refusal to flee highlights the deepening friction between South African citizens and the migrant community over economic opportunities and national stability.
Storekeeper's Statement
"South Africans, come get me. I am in South Africa, Cape Town. I am working in your country. As you can hear from my accent, I am not a South African. I am taking your job. This is me working in a South African mall. I am not going anywhere," he said.
The video has sparked widespread debate on social media, with some supporting his right to work and others condemning his provocative tone amid sensitive intercommunity relations.
