NSCDC Apprehends Scrap Dealer in Connection with Vandalized Electrical Cables in Jigawa

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, operating within Jigawa State, has successfully apprehended a suspected scrap dealer linked to the illegal possession of vandalized electrical infrastructure. This significant arrest underscores ongoing efforts to combat the destruction of critical national assets across the region.

Details of the Arrest and Seizure

According to an official statement released by ASC Badruddeen Tijjani Mahmud, the Public Relations Officer for the NSCDC Jigawa State Command, the arrest occurred on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at approximately 1500 hours. The suspect, identified as Muhd Adamu, a 50-year-old resident of Maruwa town in Kafin Hausa Local Government Area, was taken into custody following a targeted operation.

During the arrest, NSCDC operatives confiscated a substantial quantity of aluminium cable, measuring approximately 267 metres. The estimated market value of this seized material is around N573,300, highlighting the financial scale of such vandalism activities.

Investigation Reveals Network of Accomplices

Preliminary investigations conducted by the corps have uncovered that the vandalized cable was allegedly delivered to the suspect's residence for safekeeping by two accomplices. These individuals, named as Sani and Auwalu, both hail from Ruba village within the same Kafin Hausa Local Government Area. Authorities report that these accomplices are currently evading capture and remain at large.

The suspect, Muhd Adamu, is presently detained in custody as the NSCDC intensifies its efforts to locate and apprehend the fleeing accomplices to ensure they face legal consequences.

Commandant Issues Stern Warning to Vandals

In response to this incident, the State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Jigawa State issued a firm warning to all individuals involved in the vandalism of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure. The Commandant emphasized that such illegal activities will not be tolerated and that perpetrators will confront the full force of the law.

Furthermore, the Commandant appealed to the general public to maintain vigilance and promptly report any suspicious activities observed near public infrastructure to security agencies throughout Jigawa State. This collaborative approach is deemed essential for enhancing community safety and protecting vital assets.
