NSCDC Arrests Two Suspects for Alleged Rape and Defilement of Minors in Ondo State
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ondo State Command, has made significant arrests in two separate cases involving the alleged sexual assault of minors in Akure. This development was officially confirmed by the command's Head of Media and Public Relations, SC Daniel Aidamenbor, in a statement released on Wednesday, April 15, 2026.
Details of the Arrests and Alleged Crimes
According to the detailed statement, the first suspect identified is 22-year-old farmer Emeka Chidi Innocent. He is accused of raping a 13-year-old girl on March 3, 2026, in the SIB, Igbatoro area of Akure. Following the alleged crime, Innocent fled the scene and evaded capture for several weeks. However, through persistent intelligence gathering and surveillance operations, NSCDC operatives successfully tracked him down and apprehended him in Idanre. He is currently detained and undergoing further investigation.
The second case involves 38-year-old tiler Ayodele John, who is alleged to have defiled a 15-year-old minor within her parents' residence along Oda Road, Akure. This incident reportedly occurred on April 13, 2026. Demonstrating swift action, operatives from the command arrested John on April 14, 2026, less than 24 hours after the crime was reported.
Preliminary Findings and Command's Response
Preliminary investigations have revealed a troubling commonality: both suspects were previously known to the victims and their families before the incidents occurred. This factor raises serious concerns regarding trust, access, and domestic security. Both individuals have reportedly made confessional statements admitting to the alleged crimes. The NSCDC is now in the final stages of its investigations, after which the suspects will be formally charged in court.
The Command, under the leadership of Commandant Oluyemi Ibiloye, JP, has issued a strong advisory to parents and guardians. They are urged to exercise heightened vigilance and responsibility in safeguarding their children and wards. Specific recommendations include conducting thorough background checks and proper profiling of artisans, domestic workers, and any individuals granted access to homes. The Command emphasizes that parental responsibilities must not be neglected, delegated, or outsourced, as proactive supervision remains a critical defense against abuse.
Official Statements and Public Assurance
In its official statement, the NSCDC declared, "This development underscores the Command’s unwavering commitment to protecting vulnerable members of society, especially minors, and ensuring that perpetrators of sexual and gender-based violence are brought to justice." The Corps assures the public that diligent prosecution will be pursued to ensure justice is served and to deter others from engaging in such heinous acts.
The NSCDC Ondo State Command reiterates its zero-tolerance stance on rape, defilement, and all forms of sexual violence. It remains resolute in its mandate to protect lives and property and will continue to deploy all necessary resources to combat crimes against vulnerable persons. Members of the public are encouraged to promptly report any suspicious activities or incidents to the nearest NSCDC office or relevant security agencies.
