Ogun Police to Prosecute TikToker for False Rape Allegation After Confession

The Ogun State Police Command has finalized arrangements to arrest and prosecute a female TikTok user, identified as Mirabel, following her alleged admission that her claim of being raped by a stranger was entirely fabricated. This development comes after a viral phone conversation with social media personality VeryDarkMan, where a voice purported to be Mirabel's is heard confessing to making a false allegation.

Viral Confession and Police Response

In the voice note, the individual said to be Mirabel stated, "I have been taking drugs, and I was not thinking clearly when I posted the videos." This admission has prompted swift action from law enforcement. A police source, speaking anonymously to Punch, revealed that a Divisional Police Officer and other senior officers were present at the hospital where Mirabel is receiving treatment.

The source elaborated that upon her discharge, she will be taken into custody and formally charged in court. "The DPO and some senior police officers are currently at the hospital where she is admitted. Once she is discharged, she will be taken into custody, and a charge will be prepared against her for trial. The essence is to serve as a deterrent to others," the source emphasized.

Government Involvement and Medical Care

Adijat Adeleye, the Ogun State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, informed journalists that Mirabel has been admitted to a state-owned health facility and is receiving comprehensive medical attention. The Ogun state government has visited her and initiated a coordinated, multi-sectoral response to the initial allegation of sexual assault.

According to Commissioner Adeleye, Mirabel has been responding positively to treatment. She explained that the hospital visit aimed to assess the victim's condition and ensure prompt administration of appropriate medical and welfare interventions.

Commitment to Due Process and Legal Action

However, Commissioner Adeleye issued a stern warning that anyone found culpable in the case will face prosecution. "However, while we stand firmly with survivors, we are equally guided by due process. Investigations must be evidence-based, transparent and fair to all parties involved. Whoever is found wanting will face the full wrath of the law," she added.

This case highlights the serious consequences of false accusations, with authorities stressing the importance of truthful reporting to maintain justice and support genuine survivors. The police action underscores their commitment to upholding the law and preventing misuse of legal systems for personal gain or attention.
