An Akure Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ondo State has directed that an alleged kidnap suspect, Abubakar Mohammed Bello, be held in a juvenile correctional facility following his involvement in the abduction of two women and unlawful possession of firearms.

Arraignment and Charges

Bello was brought before Magistrate Odenusi-Fadeyi Olatedu on a three-count charge that includes conspiracy, kidnapping, and illegal possession of firearms. The charges were presented by the police during the court proceedings.

Details of the Alleged Offenses

According to the police charge sheet, the defendant, along with others who are currently at large, allegedly committed the crimes on April 10, 2026, along the Imeri/Idogun Road in Ido-Ani, Ondo State. The prosecution claimed that the suspect conspired with accomplices to abduct two women identified as Yemisi Adeyanju and Sandibo Esther. Additionally, the police accused Bello of being in possession of two locally made barrel guns.

The offenses are said to contravene several laws, including the Criminal Code Law of Ondo State, the Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Abduction Law of Ondo State, 2010, and the Firearms Act of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

Court Proceedings and Ruling

During the hearing, police prosecutor Taiwo Oniyere urged the court to remand the defendant in a juvenile facility, citing his age as a key factor. Defense counsel Ola Adedire did not oppose this application. In her ruling, Magistrate Odenusi-Fadeyi Olateju granted the request and ordered that the defendant be remanded at a juvenile home pending further proceedings. The case has been adjourned to August 20, 2026, for mention.
