Police Officer's Sister Brutally Murdered in Ondo Home Invasion

In a shocking incident that has sent waves of fear through the community, unknown assailants invaded the residence of a serving police officer in Ondo State, resulting in the brutal murder of her 27-year-old sister. The tragic event unfolded in the Funbi Fagun area of Ondo West Local Government, highlighting ongoing security challenges in the region.

Details of the Violent Attack

The victim, identified as Faith Olusesan, was macheted to death at the home of her sister, DSP Helen Adetowubo, a police officer. The attack occurred on Friday, February 6, 2026, when an unspecified number of armed individuals stormed the property. According to reports from the Ondo State Government-owned Hope Newspaper, the assailants scaled an unmounted section of the barbed-wire fence to gain access to the compound.

Witnesses indicate that the attackers wielded machetes and other dangerous weapons during the assault. Faith Olusesan had just returned from the market, where she had been sent to purchase foodstuffs for the family. The assailants reportedly waited inside the house for her return, suggesting the attack was premeditated.

Police Investigation and Family's Anguish

Investigations led by the Nigeria Police Force, Funbi Fagun Division, under Divisional Police Officer Adenibuyan Olanrewaju, revealed disturbing details. One of the windows leading to the parlour had been burgled, possibly in search of the victim or valuable items within the residence. The family discovered Faith's lifeless body on the floor upon returning home.

In a heartbreaking revelation, DSP Adetowubo disclosed that her nephew's friend had sent a text message approximately one hour before the incident, warning that Faith's life was in danger. This warning came too late to prevent the tragedy. The victim had been preparing to travel abroad in search of better opportunities, a common aspiration known locally as "japa," in the coming weeks.

Official Response and Ongoing Investigations

The police at Funbi Fagun Division confirmed they were notified around 2:00 p.m. on the day of the incident and immediately dispatched detectives to the scene. The lifeless body was evacuated by operatives and deposited at the General Hospital in Ondo for proper examination.

In a related development, it was gathered that a suspect was rescued from angry friends and relatives by Amotekun operatives, the regional security outfit, and subsequently handed over to the police. The case has since been transferred to Akure for further investigation, indicating the seriousness with which authorities are treating this violent crime.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear as investigations continue. This tragic event underscores the vulnerability of even law enforcement families to violent attacks and raises important questions about community safety in Ondo State.
