The Oyo State Police Command has apprehended five individuals suspected of armed robbery and seized firearms, ammunition, and items believed to be criminal charms during a targeted raid on a hideout in Ibadan. The operation, part of ongoing intelligence-driven efforts, aims to curb violent crime and improve public safety across the state.

Details of the Operation

In a statement released on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed that the arrests were made early on June 12, 2026, at Gbeku Area, Olodo, Ibadan. Acting on credible intelligence, operatives raided the residence of Surajudeen Babatunde Adio, also known as “Surii Ilupeju,” where the alleged criminal syndicate was operating.

Suspects and Recovered Items

The five suspects arrested are Ahmed Nafiu, 43; Olukunmi Olaniyi, 36; Femi Odeyinde, 53; Jelili Akinade, 50; and Muhideen Adio, 27. During the search, law enforcement recovered a pump-action gun, a cut-to-size single-barrel gun, eight live cartridges, a native bullet-proof vest, two bottles of suspected charm-induced syrup, and various charms.

The police stated that the suspects remain in custody as investigations continue to uncover the full extent of their criminal activities and to locate other syndicate members still at large.

The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, reiterated the Command’s dedication to fighting armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism, and other violent crimes. He assured residents that intelligence-led operations and targeted raids on criminal hideouts would persist until all criminal elements in the state are brought to justice.

The Commissioner also appealed to the public to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information, promising strict confidentiality. He emphasized that collaboration between residents and security forces is vital for sustaining efforts to protect lives and property across Oyo State.
