Governor Makinde Consoles Grieving Husband
The emotional scene unfolded as Governor Makinde visited the community following the abduction of staff and students from three local schools by armed bandits. Professor Alamu could not hold back his tears as the governor consoled him, promising decisive action.
Makinde assured residents of his administration's commitment to securing the safe release of all victims and vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice. The incident has heightened concerns over insecurity in Oyo State, particularly in rural Ogbomoso communities where abductions have become a growing fear.
Community in Mourning
The abduction occurred in Orire Local Government Area, where bandits invaded schools, killing one teacher before kidnapping several staff and pupils. Distress videos from the victims have shown them appealing for dialogue and urgent intervention.
Governor Makinde's visit came days after the attack, as affected families gathered to plead for help. Civil society groups have also protested in Ibadan, demanding immediate government action to rescue the abducted individuals.
Renewed Calls for Security
The incident has sparked widespread outrage and renewed calls for improved security measures in the state. Reverend Bunmi Thomas emphasized the need for intensified rescue efforts amid growing fears for the victims' safety.
Oyo State government has promised active efforts to secure the release of the victims, following coordinated school abductions by terrorists. The principal, Mrs. Alamu, and a teacher appeared in emotional videos from captivity, pleading with the government for urgent rescue and warning that a military attempt on May 26 had worsened their situation.
