Nasarawa Pastor Arrested for Alleged Abuse of 16-Year-Old Girl in Karshi

The Nasarawa State Police Command has taken into custody a cleric, Asonye Isaiah, following serious allegations of abuse involving a 16-year-old girl in the Karshi area of Karu Local Government Area. This development was confirmed by the command's spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, in a detailed statement released on Sunday, April 19, 2026, which outlined the sequence of events leading to the arrest.

Exploitation of Trust and Alleged Abuse

According to police reports, the suspect allegedly manipulated the trust of the victim's family by asserting that the teenager was under a spiritual affliction and required immediate cleansing at a river. Acting on this deceptive claim, the girl's aunt reportedly entrusted the minor to him in good faith. However, instead of performing any spiritual intervention, the suspect is accused of taking the girl to a hotel in New Karshi, where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.

Authorities further revealed that the victim was threatened and warned against disclosing the incident to anyone. The situation only came to light after the victim's guardian observed significant changes in her behavior, prompting concerns that eventually led to a formal complaint being filed with the police.

Police Response and Investigation

Upon receiving the report, operatives from the Karshi Divisional Headquarters swiftly apprehended the suspect. The police also ensured that the victim was promptly taken for a medical evaluation, which provided evidence supporting the claims of abuse and is now informing the ongoing investigation.

During preliminary interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted to the allegations and sought leniency, as stated in the police release. In response, the Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia for a more thorough investigation and potential prosecution.

Commitment to Public Safety

The police command has reiterated its unwavering commitment to protecting vulnerable members of the public. They have urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities or cases of abuse to law enforcement authorities to ensure swift action and justice.
