The Lagos State Police Command has officially summoned Pastor Chris Okafor, the Senior Pastor of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, for questioning. This follows serious allegations of sexual misconduct and other offences that authorities say could disrupt public peace.
Police Statement and Summons Details
In a statement released on Sunday, January 4, 2026, by the Lagos Command Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, the police confirmed the summons. The cleric is required to present himself at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Panti, Yaba, on Monday, January 5, 2026, at 10:00 am.
The police statement emphasized that the nature of the alleged offences poses a potential threat to law and order within the state. This formal step marks a significant escalation in the ongoing situation surrounding the popular pastor.
Assurance of Protection for Victims
A crucial part of the police announcement was a direct message to potential victims. The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has directed that full security and protection be provided to anyone coming forward.
"The identity of the victims will be kept absolutely confidential and will be protected," the police assured. They encouraged individuals with relevant information or complaints to report at the SCID in Panti, where a dedicated investigation has already commenced.
Background of the Allegations and Pastor's Response
The controversy first entered the public domain in December when Nollywood actress Doris Ogala made startling claims. She alleged she had been in a relationship with Pastor Okafor since 2017 and that he had repeatedly promised to marry her.
Prior to the police summons, Pastor Okafor had already stepped aside from his pulpit duties. Addressing his congregation, he framed his departure as a planned period of rest and a belated honeymoon with his wife, stating they would be away for one month and return in February.
The police investigation will now independently scrutinize these allegations and any others that may surface following their call for witnesses.
