Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested three suspects in connection with cultism and armed robbery, recovering a stolen motorcycle and parts of a 10KVA generator valued at ₦650,000. The breakthroughs came through sustained intelligence-led, preventive, and community-responsive policing across Ago-Iwoye, Mowe, and Warewa Divisions, according to a statement by the Command’s Spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, in Abeokuta.
Mowe Division: Notorious Cult Leader Apprehended
In Mowe, operatives arrested a 26-year-old male suspect identified as a notorious leader of the Eiye Confraternity operating within the Mowe axis. Babaseyi stated that the arrest followed credible intelligence uncovering plans by the cult group to conduct an initiation exercise aimed at recruiting new members and expanding activities. “Through sustained surveillance and proactive deployment, operatives successfully arrested the suspect and disrupted the planned cult initiation exercise before it could be executed,” he said. During investigation, the suspect reportedly confessed to his leadership role and admitted involvement in cult-related activities. He has been transferred for further investigation and prosecution.
Ago-Iwoye Division: Armed Robbery Foiled
In Ago-Iwoye, operatives responded swiftly to a violent armed robbery incident involving a commercial motorcyclist along the Ita-Merin axis. According to Babaseyi, the victim was attacked on June 16, 2026, by two passengers he had conveyed. The suspects used a hammer to strike the victim on the head and body, inflicting injuries before dispossessing him of the motorcycle. Following a distress alert, residents pursued and apprehended one suspect. Police operatives arrived on time, restored order, and prevented mob action. Exhibits recovered include the stolen motorcycle and the hammer used in the attack. “Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects operate in a coordinated manner, targeting commercial motorcyclists along isolated routes using a hammer to overpower victims and dispossess them of their motorcycles,” Babaseyi added. Further investigation linked the arrested suspect to similar incidents in the area, indicating his role as a key actor in a broader criminal network. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing accomplice and dismantle the network.
Warewa Division: Generator Theft Uncovered
In Warewa, operatives arrested a suspect involved in the diversion and illegal disposal of a 10KVA generator valued at ₦650,000. Babaseyi explained that the complainant reported the generator, rented out for legitimate business use, was unlawfully diverted and sold at a suspiciously low price of ₦15,000. Based on credible intelligence, detectives traced the exhibits to Kara-Isheri, where the suspect was arrested while dismantling the equipment into parts. Some parts of the generator were recovered as exhibits. “Preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect may be connected to a wider pattern of similar fraudulent activities involving rented equipment. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other individuals connected to the case and recover additional exhibits,” Babaseyi stated.
Commissioner Commends Operatives
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the professionalism, vigilance, and swift tactical response of the operatives involved. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to proactive, intelligence-led policing, crime prevention, and sustained pressure on criminal elements across the state. Ojajuni assured that Ogun State remains unsafe for criminals and urged the public to continue supporting police operations by providing timely and credible information.
