Police Arrest Two Over Corps Member's Death in Benue

Operatives of the Benue State Police Command have apprehended two individuals in connection with the death of a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Benjamin Msughaondo Une.

LIB earlier reported that Benjamin was beaten to death by members of a community vigilante group in Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State after being allegedly mistaken for a motorcycle thief.

The command's spokesperson, DSP Edet Udeme, confirmed the arrests during an interview with journalists on Friday, April 24, 2026, in Makurdi.

Udeme stated that the incident occurred between 11 p.m. and midnight on Sunday at Major Settlement, near the Buruku Local Government Secretariat, where the deceased was attacked by a group of hoodlums who accused him of stealing a motorcycle.

She noted that preliminary investigations have shown the allegation to be false, as documents indicate the motorcycle belonged to the deceased.

The two suspects arrested in connection with the crime have been identified as Terkimbi Abumswende and Joshua Adagim, while another suspect remains at large.

Udeme added that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect, assuring that a thorough investigation will be conducted to ensure all those involved face justice.
