Police Sergeant Dismissed in Ekiti for Drug Abuse and Misconduct
The Ekiti State Police Command has officially dismissed Sergeant Osayingbemi Temitope following allegations of misconduct and illicit drug use. The officer was captured in a widely circulated viral video behaving erratically, leading authorities to suspect he was under the influence of an illegal substance.
Confirmation of Dismissal
SP Sunday Abutu, the command's spokesperson, confirmed the dismissal in a statement released on Friday, May 15, 2026. He revealed that the command had completed medical and psychological evaluations, along with internal disciplinary proceedings, regarding the officer.

The incident occurred on May 9, 2026, in Ikole-Ekiti after the officer reportedly consumed illicit substances. The command described the event as 'an unfortunate and ridiculous incident' that was recorded and shared on social media. Following the incident, the officer was immediately subjected to medical and psychological examinations.
Medical and Psychological Findings
The psychological evaluation indicated that the officer was emotionally stable, while the medical test confirmed positive results for Tobacco and Amphetamine. During further investigation, the dismissed officer reportedly confessed to taking illicit drugs.
Disciplinary Outcome
After completing internal disciplinary proceedings, the officer was found guilty and recommended for dismissal. The recommendation was subsequently approved by the authorities. The command confirmed that the dismissal takes immediate effect.
