The Rivers State Police Command has apprehended a suspect identified as Brayas Nanas after operatives discovered a firearm cunningly hidden inside a loaf of bread. The arrest occurred during a routine stop-and-search operation along Azikiwe Road by Red Cross Junction in Port Harcourt.
Details of the Arrest
Police officers conducting the routine check intercepted a vehicle and conducted a thorough search of all occupants. During the search, they recovered a Browning pistol ingeniously concealed within a loaf of bread from Nanas, a resident of New Road, Borikiri, Port Harcourt, who was traveling as a passenger in the vehicle.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the recovered firearm had no visible serial number, raising immediate concerns about its origin and intended criminal use. The suspect allegedly admitted ownership of the weapon and stated that he purchased it in Okrika for the sum of Eight Hundred Thousand Naira (N800,000.00).
Police Commissioner's Warning
Reacting to the arrest, the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, urged residents to remain vigilant and security-conscious at all times. He emphasized that the discovery of a firearm hidden inside a loaf of bread demonstrates the increasingly deceptive methods employed by criminal elements to evade detection. The command continues to investigate the case to uncover any broader criminal network.
