According to an official statement, the case has now been moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for a thorough and detailed investigation. The suspect remains in police custody as detectives work to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer for Ogun State, Babaseyi Oluseyi, stated that investigations have formally commenced into the death of the 22-year-old artist. He assured the public that updates would be provided as the probe progresses.

Online Outpouring and Speculation

News of Destiny Boy's passing sent shockwaves through the Nigerian music community and his fanbase on Sunday. The grief was compounded by the circulation of disturbing videos online, which showed his body being transported to a mortuary. One particularly viral clip depicted the late singer lying in the back of a vehicle with cotton wool placed in his ears and nostrils, sparking widespread speculation and sorrow.

Amid the swirling rumors, an associate of Destiny Boy later attempted to provide context, sharing a video explanation. The associate claimed that the singer had been battling a private health challenge prior to his death, though this has not been officially confirmed by investigators.

Destiny Boy's Legacy and Family

Born Afeez Adeshina, Destiny Boy rose to prominence with his unique Fuji-inspired sound. He captured massive national attention in 2019 after releasing a Fuji cover of Davido's global hit, 'If'. This breakthrough paved the way for a series of successful tracks, including 'Lamba', 'One Transaction', 'Gbese', 'Billion Dollar', 'Mio Gbonkankan', and 'Lowkey'.

His sudden death cuts short a promising career. Destiny Boy is survived by his partner, Iremide, and their child, whom they welcomed just months before, in November 2024.

The Ogun State Police Command has reiterated that investigations are ongoing and are being treated with the utmost seriousness to ensure justice is served.
