A violent confrontation between rival cult groups in Makurdi, Benue State, has left three people dead, sending shockwaves through the local community.

Details of the Deadly Incident

The fatal clash is reported to have involved members of the Vikings and AYE confraternities. It took place in the Wurukum area, within the Walomayo Council Ward of Makurdi Local Government Area. Authorities confirmed the incident occurred on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, with the attack happening around 11:49 pm.

The victims have been identified as three local men. Mr. Hundred lived opposite the Wurukum Mosque. Martins Dagba, who was popularly known as Wonder, resided near Solace Hotels. The third victim was Aondoaseer Yisa, also called Poka, from Usman Street.

Local Government Condemns Attack

Reacting to the tragic event, the Chairman of Makurdi LGA, Joseph Keffi, issued a strong statement through his Special Adviser on Security and Political Matters, Terhide Beetseh Mark. He described the killings as senseless and heartbreaking while extending condolences to the bereaved families and affected communities.

Beetseh emphasized that the local government is actively collaborating with security agencies and relevant stakeholders to enhance security in the area. The primary goal is to ensure the perpetrators are apprehended and face the full wrath of the law.

The council reaffirmed its commitment to restoring peace, rebuilding the affected communities, and promoting development across the local government. Residents were urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements or activities to the security agencies immediately.
