Togolese Man Remanded for Defiling Teen in Ondo

A 34-year-old Togolese national, Biola Muhammed, has been ordered to be remanded at the Olokuta Correctional Centre by an Akure Magistrate’s Court over allegations of defiling a 13-year-old girl. The defendant, who works as a farm labourer, faces charges of defilement of a minor.

The prosecuting police officer, Augustine Omheneimhen, informed the court that the incident occurred at 9:30 am on April 25, 2026, at No. 32, Artillery Brigade, Nigerian Army District, Owena Barrack, Akure. He alleged that the defendant engaged in unlawful sexual intercourse with the minor.

The offence is said to contravene Section 3(a) and is punishable under Sections (b) and (c) of the Violence Against Persons Law of Ondo State, 2021. The prosecutor further stated that he would rely on the victim’s statement and the medical report from the 32 Brigade Medical Centre of the Nigerian Army in Akure. He urged the court to remand the defendant at the Olokuta Correctional Centre pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

In his response, the defendant, Muhammed, denied knowing the victim or her mother, despite the mother’s allegation that he raped her daughter and seized the victim’s phone. His counsel, G.O Bernard, requested that the case be transferred to the Magistrate’s Family Court. The magistrate, O.T. Lebi, ordered the remand of the defendant at the Olokuta Correctional Centre pending the DPP’s advice. The case has been adjourned to August 4, 2026.
