Yobe Police Command Apprehends Two Suspects in Connection with Murder and Drug Abuse Cases
The Yobe State Police Command has made significant arrests in Damaturu, detaining two suspects for alleged involvement in murder and drug abuse-related offenses. The suspects, identified as Musa Mohammed, aged 24, and Abdullahi Musa, aged 20, are accused of committing violent acts that resulted in fatalities.
Details of the First Incident: A Fatal Attack Linked to Substance Abuse
According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Dungus Abdulkarim, the command's spokesperson, a distress report was received at the 'A' Division Police in Damaturu on April 7, 2026, at approximately 2:10 PM. The report concerned a violent attack that had occurred around 6:30 PM in the Bindigari Primary School area of Damaturu metropolis.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim, Adamu Suleiman Saidu, 33 years old, was allegedly attacked by Musa Mohammed, also known as 'Aljan,' following a misunderstanding believed to be connected to substance abuse. During the altercation, the suspect reportedly used an axe to inflict severe injuries to the victim's head, while the suspect himself sustained minor injuries.
Police operatives swiftly mobilized to the scene, arrested the suspect, and recovered the axe used in the crime, which has been registered as an exhibit. The victim was immediately rushed to the General Hospital in Damaturu for medical attention but tragically died while receiving treatment. Investigation into this incident has commenced, and the suspect will be prosecuted accordingly.
Second Incident: A Deadly Dispute Over a Borrowed T-Shirt
In a separate but similar incident, police officers responded to a violent fight between two young men in the Abari community on April 5, 2026. At about 1:00 PM, officers attached to 'C' Division in Damaturu answered a distress call involving Al'amin Abdullahi Musa, 20 years old, and Ibrahim Abdullahi, 21 years old, both residents of Abari.
The dispute reportedly started over a borrowed T-shirt and escalated into a physical fight. During the altercation, punches were exchanged, causing one of the parties to fall unconscious. The victim was taken to the Specialist Hospital in Damaturu, where he was confirmed dead. Abdullahi Musa has been arrested, and investigation is ongoing.

SP Dungus Abdulkarim emphasized the command's dedication to combating crime and criminality across Yobe State. He noted that the continued reduction in crime rates in the state is a testament to the sustained cooperation and support from community members.
