Two Cultists Arrested in Kogi University Over Student Death

Two suspected cultists have been arrested in connection with the death of a student at Prince Abubakar Audu University in Anyigba, Kogi State. The suspects, both students of the institution, were taken into custody for their alleged involvement in the killing of Mr. David Ocholi Solomon, a 300-level student in the Department of Microbiology.

Incident Details

The deceased, who was from the Biochemistry department, reportedly lost his life in a cult-related clash on the university campus. The incident prompted a condolence visit by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Usman Salisu Ogbo, to the family of the deceased at their residence in Lokoja on Saturday.

Arrest and Investigation

In a statement issued by the university's Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Uredo Omale, on Saturday, it was confirmed that the suspects were apprehended within two hours of the incident. They were found hiding in Ayangba while planning to flee the area. The suspects have since been handed over to security agencies for further investigation and prosecution.

Vice Chancellor's Response

Professor Ogbo expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing it as deeply painful and distressing. He was attending the 35th Annual National Conference and Convention of the Nigerian Political Science Association (NPSA) at the University of Ibadan when he received the news. During his condolence visit, he said, 'This is deeply painful and distressing, as the news plunged the entire university community into mourning.' He urged the family to find the strength to bear the irreplaceable loss of their loved one.

Security Measures

Following the incident, peace has been restored on campus with the deployment of additional security personnel to ensure the safety of staff and students.
