The Ondo State Police Command has taken two men into custody for their alleged involvement in a brutal attack that left a woman in a coma. The incident, which occurred in Akure, the state capital, is being treated as a case of attempted murder.

Swift Police Response to Distress Call

According to the command's spokesperson, DSP Jimoh Kazeem, the arrest was made on Wednesday, January 7, 2025. The police acted on a distress call from a woman named Fasuru, a resident of the Oke-Ijebu area in Akure. Officers from the Ijapo Divisional Police Headquarters responded immediately to the report.

Upon arrival at the scene, the operatives reportedly found two men in the act of attacking the female victim. The police swiftly intervened to stop the assault.

Victim Hospitalized, Suspects Identified

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects, identified as Sodiq and Emmanuel, had allegedly assaulted the woman until she lost consciousness. The police rescued the victim and rushed her to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment, where she was said to be in a coma.

The two alleged attackers were arrested on the spot and taken into police custody for interrogation. The case has been transferred to the Command Monitoring Unit for a detailed investigation that will lead to prosecution.

Police Commissioner Issues Stern Warning

Reacting to the incident, the Ondo State Police Commissioner, Adebowale Lawal, cautioned residents against engaging in violent acts. He emphasized that such criminal offences carry serious legal consequences.

Commissioner Lawal assured the public of the command's readiness to address complaints promptly. He reiterated the police's commitment to ensuring that justice is served in this case and all others.

The police boss further called on all residents of the state to remain law-abiding. He urged the community to assist security agencies by providing timely and credible information. This cooperation is vital for preventing crime and safeguarding lives and property across Ondo State.
