Woman Remanded for Scalding Niece with Hot Water in Ogun State Incident
In a distressing case of alleged child abuse, police in Ogun State have arrested and remanded a 45-year-old woman, Adeoye Taiwo, for reportedly pouring hot water on her 13-year-old niece, causing severe burns. The incident occurred in the Odomogun area of Ijebu-Imusin, where the victim, identified as Adeoye Modinat, was living with the suspect at the time.
Details of the Alleged Assault
The suspect, Adeoye Taiwo, allegedly accused her twin sister's daughter of "following men" in the area. According to reports, she instructed her own daughter to boil water, which she then used to scald the young victim. This violent act left the 13-year-old with significant injuries, necessitating immediate medical attention.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun State, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed that detectives responded promptly after receiving the report on April 13, 2026, at approximately 3:30 a.m. Officers visited the scene, rescued the victim, and ensured her transfer to a medical facility, where she is currently receiving treatment for her burns.
Legal Proceedings and Police Response
DSP Babaseyi stated that the suspect has been charged to court. Sources indicate she was arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Ijebu-Imusin and granted bail in the sum of N3 million. However, she has not yet met the bail conditions and is currently being held at the Igbeba Correctional Centre.
