A woman has shared a heartbreaking story of how her brother's death exposed the true nature of his friends. In a Facebook post, Amarachi Esther Chukwudi reflected on the loyalty shown by late actor Alex Ekubo's friends, IK Ogbonna and Yomi Casual, which contrasted sharply with her own experience.
The Painful Discovery
Her brother, Chibuike Raymond, also known as Senator, died in a motor accident on December 28, 2009, while returning from Abuja. At the time, he had just moved into a new apartment, but none of the family knew its exact location. After his burial, they desperately searched for information, contacting his closest friends. One after another, they claimed ignorance, saying they had no idea where he lived.
Then a young lady saw a poster on their gate and stopped by. Through tears, she revealed that her brother had helped Senator move into his new apartment with his truck. This gave the family hope.
The Confrontation
When the woman returned to Abuja, the lady's brother took her to the estate. They walked to the apartment only to find signs that someone was living there. After persistent knocking, the door opened to reveal the same friend, Emeka, who had repeatedly told them he didn't know where her brother lived. Not only had he lied, but he had moved into the apartment and was claiming ownership.
The caretaker asked Emeka if he knew who she was. In that moment, every lie collapsed. The woman noted that death does not reveal your enemies; it reveals your friends. Some people honor you after you're gone, while others see your absence as an opportunity.
A Lesson in Loyalty
Seeing Alex Ekubo's friends stand by his family reminded her that good friends exist—friends who understand that loyalty does not end at the grave. She expressed hope that everyone may be blessed with people who protect their name, family, and legacy when they can no longer speak for themselves.
She concluded by honoring her brother, Senator, and calling out Emeka with the Igbo phrase 'Enyi mere Enyi ya,' meaning 'A friend has done his friend.'
