The Federal Government on Monday commenced its case against social media influencer Justice Chidiebere, widely known as 'Justice Crack,' on allegations of cybercrime and felony before a Federal High Court in Abuja.
Arraignment and Plea
Chidiebere was arraigned before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik on an amended three-count charge relating to cyber-related offences. When the charges were read to him, the defendant entered a plea of not guilty on all counts.
Prosecution Witness Testimony
Following the plea, the prosecution began trial proceedings by calling its first witness, Oronto Douglas. Douglas testified during the continuation of evidence-in-chief, stating that audio and video recordings obtained during the defendant's interview session were downloaded onto a flash drive as part of the investigation process. He further confirmed signing a certificate of compliance for the electronic evidence tendered in court, adhering to legal requirements.
Bail Conditions and Adjournment
During the proceedings, the defendant's counsel requested that the bail conditions previously granted to Chidiebere remain in effect until the case is resolved. The prosecution did not oppose this application. Justice Abdulmalik ruled that the existing bail conditions should continue and adjourned the matter to September 28 for further hearing.
The court also noted that the prosecution counsel, who had earlier submitted an application to the Deputy Chief Registrar, would additionally apply to the Head of the court's Information Technology Department for the viewing of forensic evidence related to the case.
