Two soldiers attached to the 63 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have died following a road traffic accident in Delta State, with the driver testing positive for cocaine.

Details of the Incident

Security consultant and counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama disclosed this on Sunday via a post on his official X account. According to Makama, military sources reported that troops responded to the accident on Saturday, May 30, 2026, along 74 Road in the Oshimili South Local Government Area of Delta State.

Preliminary findings indicated that the two soldiers were riding a motorcycle when they were struck by a vehicle. The victims were immediately evacuated to the 63 Brigade Medical Centre for treatment but were confirmed dead on arrival by medical personnel.

Driver Arrest and Drug Test

Following the incident, the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash was apprehended by security personnel. Quoting sources, Makama said the suspect was subjected to drug tests and reportedly tested positive for cannabis and cocaine. The suspect has since been handed over to the 63 Provost Company for further investigation and necessary action.

Remains and Investigation

The remains of the deceased soldiers have been deposited at the morgue of the Asaba Specialist Hospital pending further arrangements. Authorities have commenced investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
