The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Strategic Command, has arrested a suspected drug dealer at the Audu Bako Secretariat during the ongoing Operation Sharar Mafaka.
The Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics and Public Relations Officer of the command, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, April 30, 2026. He said the suspect had jumped from the second floor of a building at the secretariat to evade arrest.
“Acting on credible intelligence, operatives mobilized to dislodge notorious drug joints operating within the secretariat,” the statement read. “On sighting NDLEA officers, the suspect climbed to the second floor of a building at the secretariat and jumped from behind the structure in an attempt to evade arrest.”
Despite his effort to escape, operatives apprehended him immediately, recovered a quantity of Cannabis sativa, and conveyed him to the command office for further investigation and possible prosecution. The suspect, who works as a car washer, admitted to being involved in the illicit trade for approximately two years.
Officers involved in the operation say their vigilance and thoroughness ensured no lead was left unchecked in effecting the arrest and securing the exhibit. Reacting to the arrest, CN DY Lawal, commander of the NDLEA Kano Strategic Command, said: “This is a warning to all those that think government establishments can be used as a hide out for their illicit activities.”
Operation Sharar Mafaka remains active as the NDLEA intensifies efforts to rid Kano State of drug distribution points and hold offenders accountable under the law.
