The case originated from intelligence inputs that led the Narcotics Control Bureau's Ahmedabad zonal unit to apprehend Hanchabila John, a Zambian citizen, on September 3, 2021. John was caught smuggling 2.75 kg of heroin on a flight from Dubai to Ahmedabad, marking a significant seizure in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking.
During the subsequent investigation, authorities identified Nwaobu Christian Arinze, a 37-year-old Nigerian national, as the intended receiver of the contraband. Arinze was promptly arrested by the NCB in Ahmedabad, linking him directly to the smuggling network and highlighting the international dimensions of the crime.
Legal Proceedings and Conviction
A formal complaint was filed before the additional district and sessions court in Ahmedabad on February 28, 2022, charging both individuals under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act. The legal process involved a detailed trial, culminating in the court's conviction of John and Arinze on Tuesday, March 10, 2026.
