3 Teen Girls Arrested in Oyo for N10m Kidnap Threat

The Oyo State Police Command has made a startling arrest, detaining three teenage girls for allegedly making a terrifying kidnap and ransom threat against a local woman in Ikoyi-Ile.

Threatening Call Demands Human Parts and Cash

According to the police, the incident came to light on Friday, January 9, 2026, when a meat seller named Islamiat Omowumi reported receiving a menacing phone call. The caller, from a private number, threatened to abduct her. The demands were chilling: human parts and a ransom of Ten Million Naira (N10,000,000). The caller allegedly singled out Omowumi because of her trade as a meat seller and warned of dire consequences if the demands were not met.

Swift Police Action Leads to Arrests

Acting on the report, detectives from the Command launched an immediate, intelligence-driven investigation. Their work quickly led them to the suspects, all residents of Ikoyi-Ile in the Oriire Local Government Area. The arrested individuals are:

  • Nurudeen Fathia (female), aged 17 years
  • Fatai Taiwo (female), aged 17 years
  • Munirat Saliu (female), aged 16 years

During interrogation, the three teenagers confessed to making the threatening call. However, they shocked authorities by claiming the entire episode was intended as a prank. The police also recovered a small Itel mobile phone allegedly used to place the call, which supported the findings of their investigation.

Police Warning and Ongoing Probe

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, who confirmed the arrests in a statement, said the suspects are currently in custody. Investigation is ongoing to fully unravel the circumstances and determine the appropriate legal actions. The Command used the opportunity to issue a stern warning, particularly to youths, against engaging in acts that cause fear, panic, or threaten lives, as they constitute serious criminal offences with legal consequences.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, commended the Inspector-General of Police for his support. He reiterated the Command's commitment to proactive, intelligence-led policing and reassured the public of its unwavering dedication to safeguarding lives and property across Oyo State. Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activities promptly to the nearest police station.
