In a swift and decisive operation, troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully rescued eight individuals who were kidnapped by suspected militants along a critical water route near the Cameroon border.

The rescue mission was launched by troops of the 13 Brigade Nigerian Army, operating from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Ikang. According to a statement issued on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, by the Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the Brigade, Major Yemi Sokoya, the operation was triggered by urgent information provided by local residents.
The intelligence indicated that a group of militants had intercepted a commercial boat traveling along the Ikang-Cameroon waterways. The assailants abducted all eight passengers on board, a group comprising six adults and two minors.
Coordinated Pursuit and Successful Recovery
Acting promptly on the distress call received on December 29, 2025, the troops immediately mobilized for a pursuit mission. Their strategy was two-fold: chase down the perpetrators while simultaneously blocking potential escape routes and securing dominance over the waterways.
The proactive and aggressive posture of the soldiers forced the kidnappers into a corner. Unable to escape with their captives, the militants abandoned the eight victims at the Ini-Abasi Fishing Port and fled into the surrounding creeks towards the open sea.
The troops subsequently moved in and successfully recovered all eight civilians. They were then safely transported to the Brigade's headquarters for proper documentation and care before being released. No casualties were recorded among the victims or the soldiers during the entire operation.
