Bandits Release Disturbing Video of Two Abducted Women Pleading for Rescue
Bandits have released a deeply disturbing video that shows two young women who were abducted over a month ago while traveling to Sokoto State. The footage, which has circulated widely on social media, depicts the victims appearing visibly traumatised, exhausted, and unkempt as they cry and plead with the public and authorities to secure their freedom.
Victims Identified and Details of Abduction
A teacher, Mrs Aisha Al-Mustapha, posted the video on X and identified one of the young women as Maryam, along with her friend. According to Al-Mustapha, one of the women was kidnapped while traveling from Zamfara State to Sokoto State to resume her studies at school. In the video, the two women can be heard repeatedly crying out, "Please help us. Help us out," their voices filled with desperation and fear.
Bandits Taunt and Coerce Captives
At one point in the footage, one of the armed men, speaking in Hausa, is heard taunting the captives, asking them why they cannot speak louder to describe their situation. The bandit's voice is audible in the background as he appears to coerce the women into addressing the camera, adding to the harrowing nature of the scene.
Teacher Laments Prolonged Captivity
Mrs Al-Mustapha expressed deep sorrow over the prolonged captivity of her friend. She wrote, "My friend Maryam has been in captivity for the past one month. Her only sin was traveling to go to school from Zamfara to Sokoto." She further lamented, "It really pains me how banditry has been normalised and human beings are being priced like animals."
The video has sparked widespread outrage and calls for urgent action to rescue the abducted women, highlighting the ongoing security challenges in the region. Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident, but the public outcry continues to grow as more people view the distressing footage.
