The wife and daughter of a murdered Anglican priest from Kaduna State have finally been released from captivity, ending an ordeal that lasted more than two months. The victims were abducted alongside the priest, who was later killed by his captors.
The Abduction and Tragic Demands
Venerable Edwin Achi, his wife Sarah, and their daughter were taken from their home in the Nissi community, Chikun Local Government Area, on October 28, 2025. The kidnappers immediately made a hefty financial demand, initially setting a ransom of 600 million naira. They later reduced this sum to 200 million naira, threatening to execute their captives if the family failed to pay.
In a bid to prove that the victims were alive, the abductors circulated photographs of the priest and his wife. Despite these threats and negotiations, the kidnappers executed Venerable Edwin Achi before their own deadline expired, leaving his family in grave danger.
Release and Recovery
A family source named Avril confirmed the positive development on Friday, January 16, 2026. He stated that Sarah Achi and her daughter were released on Thursday night, January 15. Following their traumatic experience, both are currently receiving necessary medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital facility.
