In a brutal overnight assault, unidentified gunmen attacked a community in Gombe State, leaving two people dead and abducting several others, including a housewife and her children.
Details of the Deadly Night Raid
The violent incident unfolded in the early hours of Sunday, December 28, 2025. Armed men stormed into Pindiga town, located within the Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State. According to the Gombe State Police Command, the attack began at approximately 3:30 am at a residence along the Pindiga-Kashere Road.
The gunmen opened fire, killing two individuals at the scene. The deceased were identified as 31-year-old Yusuf Mohammed and 28-year-old Faiza Mohammed. From the same address, the assailants kidnapped 16-year-old Zainab Mohammed Yusuf.
The attackers did not stop there. They proceeded to a second residence, that of Alhaji Yayaji Abdullahi. There, they abducted his wife, 35-year-old Summai Alhaji Yayaji, his 11-year-old son, Al'amin Alhaji Yayaji, and 14-year-old Fatima Abdullahi.
Police Response and Evidence Recovery
The two victims who suffered gunshot wounds were rushed to the Cottage Hospital in Pindiga but were confirmed dead by a medical doctor. A high-level police team, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, visited the crime scene.
Their investigation led to the recovery of critical evidence: six empty shells from an AK-47 rifle and one live round of ammunition. The Police Public Relations Officer, Buhari Abdullahi, stated that tactical and intelligence-led operations were immediately intensified across the area following this development.
In a concerted effort to rescue the kidnapped victims and apprehend the culprits, the police have mobilized local hunters and vigilante groups. The police command strongly condemned the crime and assured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure justice is served.
Official Condemnation and Security Vow
Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, also vehemently condemned the attack, describing it as "barbaric, cruel and utterly unacceptable." In a statement released by his media aide, Isma'il Uba Misilli, the governor said the killing of innocent citizens and abduction of women and children was a heinous crime that challenges the state's hard-earned peace.
Governor Yahaya directed security agencies to deploy all necessary resources to track down the perpetrators, rescue the abducted individuals unharmed, and bring them to justice. He reiterated that Gombe State would not be a safe haven for criminals and warned that security operations would be intensified, with strengthened intelligence gathering and deeper collaboration with communities.
The police have urged members of the public to remain calm and to continue providing credible and timely information to aid the ongoing investigation.
