Kidnappers Abduct and Kill Ransom Bearer in Adamawa, Sparking Police Manhunt
Security forces in Adamawa State have launched a comprehensive manhunt for suspected kidnappers following the grim discovery of the body of a ransom bearer in Girei Local Government Area. The incident has heightened fears and prompted intensified security operations across the region to combat kidnapping and related violent crimes.
Details of the Abduction and Tragic Outcome
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the case was formally reported on February 21, 2026, at approximately 4:00 p.m. by the Village Head of Mallam Madugu, Aminu Modibbo Bakura, at a local police station. The report revealed a harrowing sequence of events that began earlier in the month.
On February 10, at about 9:00 a.m., two residents—Usman Ibrahim, 45, and Abubakar Arwa, 65—were kidnapped by unknown gunmen who took them to an undisclosed location. This initial abduction was not reported to authorities at the time, complicating early response efforts.
In a desperate attempt to secure the release of the hostages, a ransom of N1 million was arranged. On February 18, at around 5:00 p.m., two other residents—Abubakar Abdullahi, 28, and Ahmadu Ibrahim, 55—ventured to deliver the payment. Tragically, they too were abducted by the assailants, escalating the crisis.
Discovery of the Body and Police Investigation
The situation came to a devastating head on February 21, at about 2:00 p.m., when the corpse of Abubakar Abdullahi was discovered. Police operatives who visited the scene conducted a preliminary examination and observed three bullet wounds on the deceased. Additionally, they recovered seven empty AK-47 ammunition shells from the area, indicating the use of high-caliber weapons in the attack.
The body was promptly evacuated to a cottage hospital in Girei for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death, while investigations were immediately commenced to unravel the circumstances surrounding the abduction and killing.
Ongoing Security Efforts and Community Impact
Authorities have assured residents that efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the perpetrators responsible for this heinous act. Security operations have been intensified across Girei Local Government Area and surrounding regions to curb the rising tide of kidnapping and related crimes, which have plagued communities in Adamawa State.
This incident underscores the severe risks associated with ransom payments and the brutal tactics employed by kidnappers in the area. It has sparked alarm among local populations, who are calling for more robust security measures and community vigilance to prevent future occurrences.
As the manhunt continues, residents are urged to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and report any suspicious activities to help bring the culprits to justice and restore safety in the region.
