Kidnappers have released the traditional ruler of Ode-Oriya community in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, Chief Adeniyi Adelana, also known as the Oloriya (Baale) of Ode-Oriya Owo. The 60-year-old monarch was abducted earlier this month when armed men invaded his residence. His wife sustained gunshot injuries while allegedly trying to resist the assailants.
Release Confirmed by Community
The monarch was freed after spending several days in captivity. A community announcement confirming his release circulated on social media, stating: “Good News! Our Royal Father Has Been Released.” The traditional ruler is currently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed health facility in the town.
Fresh Concerns Over Ransom Bearer
Despite the joyous mood occasioned by the monarch’s release, fresh concerns have emerged over reports that the individual who allegedly delivered the ransom demanded by the kidnappers has been detained by the abductors. According to information contained in the community bulletin, the courier sent to facilitate the monarch’s release reportedly failed to return after carrying out the assignment.
Police Statement Pending
As of the time of filing this report, the Ondo State Police Command had yet to issue any statement on the alleged detention of the ransom bearer. The incident highlights ongoing security challenges in the region, with traditional rulers often targeted for ransom.
