Six Kidnap Victims Rescued in Kaduna by Troops

In a significant victory against violent extremists, Nigerian Army troops have successfully rescued six individuals who were being held captive in Kaduna State. The operation, which underscores the military's ongoing commitment to securing the region, was carried out on January 5, 2026.

Coordinated Military Response

The rescue was executed by troops of Sector 1, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY). It formed a critical part of a wider, coordinated series of military actions across multiple local government areas. These areas included Chikun, Kajuru, Kachia, and Kagarko, as well as communities near the Kauru border.

According to a statement released on Tuesday by Lieutenant Colonel Shuaib Umar, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for 1 Division Nigerian Army/Sector 1 OPFY, these operations were deliberately planned. Their objective is to further restrict the movement and activities of violent extremist groups within the designated Joint Operations Area (JOA).

Swift Action Following Distress Call

The successful mission was triggered by a distress alert concerning the activities of violent extremists around the Kasso adjoining hills. Upon receiving the alert, troops of Sub-Sector 5, who were already conducting clearance operations in the Kujeni general area, immediately mobilized to the location.

On arrival, the troops made contact with the criminals and engaged them with effective suppressive fire. The superior firepower forced the kidnappers to flee in disarray into the surrounding forest, abandoning their victims.

Victims Safely Reunited with Families

Following the engagement, the gallant troops thoroughly exploited the area. This decisive action led to the successful rescue of all six kidnapped victims. The military has confirmed that the rescued individuals were in stable condition.

In line with procedure, the victims were safely handed over to representatives of the Kajuru Local Government Area and the Kajuru Emirate Council. These authorities are now responsible for the onward reunification of the victims with their relieved families.

Leadership Commends Troops

The General Officer Commanding and Commander of Sector 1 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Abubakar Sadiq Mohammed Wase, has commended the troops for their bravery and effectiveness. He charged them to remain on maximum alert and sustain their aggressive tempo to continue denying criminal elements freedom of action within the Joint Operations Area.
