Suspected kidnappers have reportedly killed a Nigerian pastor identified as Akor over a delay in ransom payment. The incident was disclosed by an Abuja-based cleric, Bishop Peter Attayi Yakubu, in a Facebook post on Monday, May 25, 2026.
Details of the Incident
According to Bishop Yakubu, the kidnappers killed Akor three days after his abduction. The cleric expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing Akor as a devoted servant of God who had served as his chief usher before starting his own ministry.
"My heart is bleeding. Oh my son, pastor Akoh. He was my chief usher. He served well and was impacted with the prophetic grace then God asked him to go start his own ministry and he is doing well," Bishop wrote.
He further revealed that Akor had recently requested a fatherly visit to his church, which the bishop had planned for September. The bishop lamented the tragic turn of events, questioning how kidnappers could kill a pastor in just three days, claiming the ransom was delayed.
"Kaiii recently he begged for my fatherly visit to his church which I told him I will come in September. How can kidnappers kill pastor Akoh under 3 days with claim that ransom delayed. Oh God, the wife is even breastfeeding a new baby," he added.
Context and Reaction
The killing has sparked outrage and renewed calls for better security measures to protect citizens from kidnapping and other violent crimes. The victim's family, including his wife who is still breastfeeding a newborn, has been left devastated by the incident.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the incident, but investigations are expected to follow. The case highlights the ongoing challenges of insecurity in Nigeria, where kidnappings for ransom remain a prevalent issue.
