A Nigerian woman, Tsegba Lucy, has paid an emotional tribute to her mother and four siblings who were killed in the attack on Yelwata community, Guma Local Government Area, Benue State. The attack occurred between June 13 and 14, 2025, with reports estimating the death toll at over 200 people and more than 3,000 displaced.
Heartfelt Tribute on Facebook
Taking to Facebook on the one-year anniversary of the brutal attack, Lucy said the loss of her family members has left a gaping hole in her heart that can never be filled. She recalled cherished memories with her mother and siblings, remembering their smiles, laughter, and love.
"One year has passed, yet it still feels like yesterday," she wrote. "Today, I remember my beloved mama and my precious siblings. Losing you all left a space in my heart that can never be filled."
Memories That Endure
"Not a single day goes by without thinking of your smiles, your laughter, and the love we shared. Though you are no longer here with us, your memories continue to guide me, your love continues to strengthen me, and your presence lives forever in my heart," she added.
Lucy expressed her deep longing for her loved ones, stating, "I miss you more than words can ever express. Until we meet again, keep resting peacefully. You will always be loved, always be remembered, and never be forgotten."
Criticism of Government Response
She concluded her tribute with a poignant remark: "One year gone, forever in my heart. It is sad that the government has failed us." The attack on Yelwata remains a painful memory for the community, with many still seeking justice and support from authorities.
