Army Neutralises 8 Terrorists, 11 Surrender with Rifles in Borno Operation
8 Terrorists Killed, 11 Surrender in Borno Offensive

In a significant blow to terrorist activities in the Northeast, troops of the Nigerian Army have eliminated eight insurgents and secured the surrender of eleven others in Borno State. The successful operations, which also led to the destruction of key terrorist enclaves, mark a continued push by security forces to dismantle militant networks in the region.

Clearance Operations Yield Major Success

Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the Media Information Officer for Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), confirmed the developments in a statement issued from Maiduguri. The operations, conducted under the Desert Sanity V phase, targeted terrorist strongholds across several locations.

On January 9, 2026, soldiers carried out an extensive clearance mission in the Bulaagalda cluster. During this offensive, they destroyed multiple active camps used by terrorists. The areas cleared included Dagumba, Bonne, Yaganari, Gosuri, and Umchile. Notably, camps known as Abu Nazir and Abu Ahmed were also completely dismantled by the troops.

Weapons Recovered and Logistics Degraded

The military's push was comprehensive, focusing on crippling the insurgents' operational capabilities. Lieutenant Colonel Uba revealed that the troops systematically dismantled life-support structures and degraded terrorist logistics during the engagements.

The recovered items from these operations provide insight into the scale of the success:

  • Terrorist flags and propaganda materials.
  • An unspecified number of AK-47 rifles.
  • Multiple magazines and ammunition.
  • A General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG).

Similar offensive actions in the Yale and Bula Gaida areas forced numerous terrorists to flee in disarray, leading to the destruction of additional logistics facilities.

Surrenders and Arrests in Sustained Pressure

In a related operation based on credible intelligence, troops engaged terrorists along the Sojiri-Kayamla axis. This confrontation resulted in the neutralisation of eight insurgents. The sustained military pressure appears to be yielding strategic dividends beyond the battlefield.

Along the Azir-Wajiroko axis, eleven terrorists surrendered to the Army, handing over their rifles. This indicates a potential crack in the morale of the militant groups facing relentless offensives.

Furthermore, in a separate but critical action, troops arrested two suspected terrorist logistics collaborators in Gubio Local Government Area. These individuals are accused of supplying vital logistics to terrorists operating in the Lake Chad region.

Lieutenant Colonel Uba emphasized the Army's unwavering resolve, stating that troops will continue to sustain offensive pressures. The ultimate goal, as outlined, is the complete dismantling of terrorist networks to restore lasting peace and security to Nigeria's Northeast.
