In a significant blow to terrorist activities in the North East, troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have apprehended eight individuals and successfully dismantled a critical bombing network in Adamawa State.
Coordinated Dawn Raid in Mubi South
The operation was executed in the early hours of Monday, January 5, 2026, following weeks of meticulous surveillance. The OPHK forces conducted a coordinated cordon-and-search exercise targeting identified locations within the Yan Lemo area of Mubi South Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued by the Information Officer of the Headquarters Joint Task Force North East, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the raid was specifically aimed at finding the perpetrators and facilitators behind the recent Gamboru Market Mosque bombing.
Recovery of Evidence and Positive Identification
During the search of the suspects' residences, troops recovered a trove of evidential items. These included cash, multiple mobile phones, identification documents, ATM cards, and jewellery. All recovered materials are currently undergoing forensic analysis to aid the ongoing investigation.
A pivotal moment in the operation occurred during identification procedures. A suspect already in military custody positively identified two of the eight arrested individuals as the principal suppliers of materials used in preparing the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) for the attack. Other occupants of the raided residence were also linked to the terrorist network.
Ongoing Interrogations and Broader Security Successes
All eight suspects remain in military custody and are undergoing detailed interrogation. The goal is to extract further intelligence before they are handed over to the appropriate agencies for prosecution.
This successful operation in Adamawa is part of a broader wave of military gains against insurgents and bandits across the northern region. In a related development, the Nigerian Army Air Component eliminated no fewer than 23 bandits who were fleeing from Kano State into Katsina State during Operation FANSAN YAMMA.
Similarly, in Taraba State, troops of 6 Brigade destroyed multiple bandits' camps in the Takum area under Operation Zafin Wuta. During a firefight in Karim Lamido, two armed men were neutralised and an AK-47 rifle with ammunition was recovered. Brigade Commander Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa commended the troops and reaffirmed the military's commitment to sustaining pressure on criminal elements.
