Nigerian Army Firmly Rejects Ex-Soldier's Allegations on Welfare and Equipment
The Nigerian Army has issued a strong denial in response to claims made by dismissed Ex-Lance Corporal Rotimi Olamilekan, widely known as "Soja Boi," regarding soldier welfare and military uniforms. In a statement released on April 7, the Army clarified that Olamilekan's dismissal resulted from repeated acts of indiscipline, not for speaking out against leadership or conditions.
Army Details Dismissal Reasons and Welfare Commitments
Addressing a viral interview where Olamilekan alleged inadequate pay, poor welfare, and lack of uniforms and protective gear, the Army emphasized its dedication to troop support. The statement rejected the notion that Olamilekan was dismissed for "speaking the truth" or criticizing political figures, instead citing "persistent and grave acts of indiscipline," including violations of the Armed Forces Social Media Policy. Unauthorized media appearances, misuse of military uniform, and partisan content creation were highlighted as clear breaches of regulations.
Transparent Salary and Allowance Systems Explained
In response to remuneration claims, the Army outlined its structured salary system based on rank and years of service, as per the Manual of Financial Administration for Armed Forces of Nigeria (MAFA). Personnel receive consolidated monthly salaries, uniform allowances, and other entitlements directly into their accounts. Additionally, soldiers on deployments benefit from Ration Cash Allowance, Habit Allowance, free feeding, and operational allowances, particularly in missions like Operation HADIN KAI in the North East.
Uniforms and Protective Gear Provided Through Logistics
The Army dismissed allegations that soldiers must purchase their own uniforms or protective equipment, stressing that these items are provided through established logistics systems. Dedicated ordnance units manage procurement and distribution to ensure troops are adequately equipped. While some soldiers may voluntarily supplement issued kits for personal comfort, this does not indicate systemic failures. The Army insisted that no soldier is deployed without essential protective gear like helmets and bulletproof vests, labeling claims to the contrary as "deliberate falsehoods."
Reaffirmation of Discipline and Operational Standards
The statement concluded by reaffirming the Army's commitment to discipline, accountability, and troop welfare, noting that operational decisions are guided by strategic needs. This response aims to correct misinformation and maintain public confidence in military operations.
