FG Stands with Families of Slain Officers in Kebbi, Shettima Reaffirms Commitment

Vice President Kashim Shettima has provided a firm assurance to the families of military and police personnel who were tragically killed in a recent attack in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State, stating that the Federal Government will not abandon them in their time of grief. Speaking on behalf of President Bola Tinubu, the Vice President reiterated the administration's unwavering dedication to the welfare of fallen heroes and their loved ones, promising ongoing support and recognition for their immense sacrifices.

Condolence Visit and Federal Support Pledges

Shettima delivered this assurance on Tuesday during a condolence visit to Governor Nasir Idris in Birnin Kebbi, addressing not only the killing of security personnel but also the passing of the Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Usman Zuru, who died in Cairo, Egypt, on April 7. He emphasized that the Federal Government is committed to ensuring that the sacrifices made by officers of the armed forces and other security agencies are not in vain, highlighting the profound pain caused by these losses.

"We are here at the instance of Mr. President to commiserate with you and the good people of Kebbi State over the tragic developments of the past few days," Shettima stated. "The loss of the Speaker, the destruction in Shanga Local Government Area, and the killing of our gallant officers are deeply painful. Our hearts are with you."

Immediate Relief and Government Actions

The Vice President disclosed that President Tinubu has directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide essential relief materials to affected communities and the families of the deceased officers. He added that the President mandated him to visit the state alongside NEMA's leadership to ensure immediate intervention and support for displaced persons, underscoring the government's proactive approach.

"We will continue to stand by you. We will take all necessary measures to support you in carrying out your duties," he affirmed. Shettima also offered prayers for the deceased, asking Allah to grant them eternal rest, comfort their families, and provide strength to the state to bear these heavy losses.

State Response and Commendations

In his remarks, Governor Idris highlighted that security agencies in Kebbi are working closely with the state government to address emerging threats, noting significant improvements in response and coordination efforts. He expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for the high-level condolence visit and revealed that the state has donated N60 million to support the families of the 11 slain officers.

The governor further announced that displaced communities have been successfully resettled, with additional security measures implemented to prevent any recurrence of such attacks. Also speaking at the event, the Emir of Zuru, Alhaji Sanusi Mikailu Sami, offered prayers for peace and stability in Kebbi State and across Nigeria.
